Our state has become the focal point for a national reckoning on race and policing.
Please find the below measure approved by the SAG-AFTRA Twin Cities Local Board:
"The past year has been a trying time for Minnesotans. In addition to the considerable challenges of a global pandemic, our state has become the focal point for a national reckoning on race and policing.
Throughout this year Minnesotans and the rest of our country have stayed informed and engaged because of the work of our brothers and sisters in this union. They are broadcast journalists who have every day navigated the complexity of these stories, never knowing when they will be targeted for violence and intimidation by law enforcement or fringe groups that makes it difficult to provide public service journalism to our communities.
Our brother and sister SAG-AFTRA broadcasters' commitment to covering the story as it happens, of pulling no punches and exposing ugly truths, is the surest guarantee of our First Amendment right to free speech through a free press.
The Twin Cities Local Board of SAG-AFTRA stands proudly in solidarity with our brother and sister broadcast journalists. We call on Governor Walz, state legislators and local leaders to not only condemn the violence against journalists, but to take measures to prevent it and hold accountable those who perpetrate it."
