Devion Malcolm, a youth from Children’s Village in Dobbs Ferry, got a chance to live his dream on June 6, when he toured the WNBC-NY Weather Center in New York.
Children’s Village, a residential school for at-risk youth, knew that Malcolm is interested in pursuing a career as a weatherman, so its Connections program reached out to staff at SAG-AFTRA to set up the visit with the help of meteorologist and SAG-AFTRA member Chris Cimino. Malcolm had the opportunity to tour the station, learn about how the weather center operates, and try out the green screen for himself.
The visit was arranged as a part of SAG-AFTRA’s A Call to Arts initiative, which seeks to mentor youth interested in careers in the media industry.
