Ben Whitehair

SAG-AFTRA Executive Vice President

The SAG-AFTRA President’s Task Force on Education, Outreach & Engagement hosted the 5, 6, 7, 8 … Top Questions About Dancer Contracts livestream on March 29. Joining SAG-AFTRA Executive Vice President Ben Whitehair was SAG-AFTRA Senior Business Representative, Music Janée Lynch.

Lynch provided an overview of the factors that determine which of the different contracts dance work falls under, as well as the departments best-suited to contact for assistance, according to the nature of the work.

Together, Whitehair and Lynch answered questions from viewers about member eligibility requirements for dancers, footage usage under contract, safety and filing claims. The session proved to be an ideal opportunity to let pre-member and member dancers know about the resources and assistance available to them on the job.

“The biggest thing we want the dance community [to remember] is that the union doesn’t know what’s happening unless you report it,” said Lynch. “So if there’s a known and specific issue … let us know so that we can get out to those casting directors and productions and educate them on what constitutes a dancer contract.”
