Actor to Join Harry Shum Jr. in Celebration of Show’s Silver Anniversary

LOS ANGELES – The multifaceted Yara Shahidi has been named an Ambassador for the 25th Anniversary Screen Actors Guild Awards®. In this role, she will participate in various SAG Awards® pre-show events and share her insider’s view via social media. Shahidi joins Harry Shum Jr., who was previously announced as a SAG Awards Ambassador, in this special celebratory role.

Audiences can expect Shahidi to post her first-hand experiences of SAG Awards news and behind-the-scenes impressions of the production during the crucial days leading up to the show. Yara Shahidi has previously attended the SAG Awards twice as a Comedy Ensemble Nominee with her fellow cast members from black-ish. The 25th Annual SAG Awards will be simulcast live on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019 on TNT and TBS at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.

Yara Shahidi features in the multiple SAG Awards, Emmy® and Golden Globe® -nominated ABC series black-ish as the ambitious, popular and technologically infatuated student Zoey Johnson. Shahidi now stars as the same character in the show’s Freeform spin-off grown-ish, which sees Zoey transition from high school to higher education and impending adulthood, while recurrently appearing in black-ish as well. The second season of grown-ish premiered on Jan. 2, 2019.

Shahidi’s first major break was being cast opposite Eddie Murphy in Paramount’s heartwarming comedy Imagine That (2009). Other credits include: Sony Pictures’ Unthinkable (2010); Columbia Pictures’ Salt (2010); Summit Entertainment’s Alex Cross (2012); and the Michael De Luca Productions / Weinstein Co. film Butter (2011). Shahidi will next be seen starring in the Warner Bros. coming-of-age romance The Sun Is Also a Star.
