Union members and their families are encouraged to apply for the Union Plus Scholarship Program. The deadline for this year’s application is Jan. 31.

At a time when many families are being financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Union Plus is glad to support hardworking students as they further their education and pave the path for future success. The 2021 Union Plus Scholarship application is open to SAG-AFTRA members, their spouses and dependent children, and can be completed entirely online prior to its Jan. 31 deadline.

Over 3,200 students in union families have received nearly $5 million through the Union Plus Scholarship Program. Eligible scholarship recipients include those attending any accredited university, college, and trade or technical school in the United States for undergraduate or graduate education. Awards are given based on outstanding academic achievement, personal character, financial need and commitment to the values of organized labor, and can be used for any year of attendance. Recipients can expect one-time grants ranging from $500 to $4,000, and are encouraged to reapply each year.

In 2020, $300,000 in scholarships were awarded to 215 students representing 43 unions, including four recipients from SAG-AFTRA: Amy Arnes of Sunnyvale, California;
Luca Calabro of Chicago; Allison Carlson of Alta Loma, California; and Ryan O’Toole of Burr Ridge, Illinois.

The deadline for applying for the 2021–2022 school year is Jan. 31. Applicants can visit the website at unionplus.org/scholarship and can complete the application in stages and save answers before final submission.
