The Resolution recommends the National Board determine feasibility and implementation via Counsel of an initiation fee structure that would temporarily allow younger performers (minor performers), as identified performers under the age of 18, pay a temporary reduced initiation fee that would require full initiation fee or "step up" fee once the performer reaches the legal age of 18 years of age.
WHEREAS the protection of performers is paramount.
WHEREAS union membership protects the rights of performers.
WHEREAS SAG-AFTRA seeks to protect the rights of all performers.
WHEREAS young performers (minor performers) are less likely to seek union membership and it's protections.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the body recommends that the National Board explore the feasibility and implementation of reduced initiation fees for young performers (minor performers), as determined to be under the age of 18 years of age. With full (or "step up' to reach full) initiation fee due at the time of said performers reaching the legal age of 18.
Support for this resolution would explore the creation of a financially more affordable path for young performers (minor performers) to seek the protections of SAG-AFTRA membership. Young performers (minor performers) are the next generation of our union and having their membership grows a stronger future.
