Massachusetts SAG-AFTRA members take action today!

The Massachusetts Film & TV Tax Credit has been extremely successful since its inception. The law created in 2006 had a built-in sunset of the credit in December of 2022.  While that seems a long way off - it isn’t.  Productions are making decisions on where to film years in advance.  We MUST eliminate the sunset in this legislative calendar or it will have a devastating impact on production in Massachusetts.  This will drastically impact your livelihoods and your ability to work here.

The new state legislative session has started and two bills have been filed to eliminate the impending sunset:  House Docket #657 (Rep. Chan) and Senate Docket #344 (Sen. Moore).

We need as many representatives and senators to sign on to these bills as possible.

You must contact your state senator and state representative and ask them to co-sponsor these bills.

Use the form on this page to email your legislators. Add your personal story about your work in the industry and how the impending sunset of the Film & Television Production Incentive threatens your ability to earn a living in Massachusetts. Your personal stories are the most impactful message to lawmakers.

It is a long and challenging process to change law. (Follow along in the process here.) You will continue to hear from SAG-AFTRA New England and your local elected as the process progresses. We will need your help in this fight.  Numerous interests, differences of opinion and political ideology, press and media influence, all impact the legislative process. Building consensus among elected officials to change law requires tremendous effort and work to make legislators aware of the issues involved, to educate them about the problem and solution, and convince them to act. It is extremely important for your state representative and state senator to continue to hear from you about why this issue matters to you and your family.

Thank you for getting involved and taking action!
