An Important Message from Gabrielle Carteris Regarding the American Rescue Plan

Your participation is needed. Please let your representatives and senators know today how important COVID-19 economic relief is.

In December 2020, Congress passed a COVID-19 Economic Relief Bill and we noted the following:

"There is a lot of good to celebrate in this relief package ... At the same time, there is more to be done in the challenging months ahead and SAG-AFTRA will continue to fight on your behalf ..."

The fight continues. Elections are over, your votes have been counted, and we ask those elected to honor the promises made to help those in need.  We applaud the Biden administration's American Rescue Plan and we ask that Congress take action on it expeditiously.   

The benefits in the Plan are critical, and they include:

• A $1,400 direct stimulus payment;
• An increase in the federal stipend for unemployment insurance from $300 a week to $400 a week through September; 
• An extension of the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program and the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation program through September; and
• Federal subsidy of COBRA premiums for those who lost their work-based health insurance through September.

The benefits in the December Economic Relief Bill are set to expire in March. COVID-19 will not expire in March.
