Los Angeles (October 15, 2021) — SAG-AFTRA is delighted to welcome AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler as the keynote speaker for the union’s fifth annual convention. Shuler, one of America’s most influential labor leaders, will be speaking at 1:05 p.m. PT on Saturday, Oct. 16.

Shuler is the first woman elected to lead the federation and assumed the role in August 2021, after the death of Richard Trumka. In her previous role as AFL-CIO’s secretary-treasurer, she has worked with SAG-AFTRA as a valuable ally throughout the years.

A visionary leader and longtime trade unionist, Shuler believes the labor movement is the single most powerful vehicle for progress and that unions are a central force in leading lasting societal transformations. She is committed to busting myths about labor, leveraging the labor movement’s diversity for innovative approaches to social justice and making the benefits of a union voice on the job available to working people everywhere.

SAG-AFTRA’s national convention brings together delegates from the union’s 25 locals to represent the union’s diverse membership of 160,000, which includes actors, broadcasters, recording artists/singers and others who work in front of a camera or behind a microphone.
