Everything that we do is about the story [and] when you can handle an ice-cold reading and not be afraid of it, the rest is easy.

Clay Banks

Acting Coach, Founder and Owner of Clay Banks Studio International

For many actors, having to cold read can be a daunting experience. After all, part of what makes a great audition is the time taken to rehearse beforehand, and cold readings can make an actor second-guess themselves. But while cold readings can seem difficult to prepare for, there are ways performers can practice and deliver stellar performances in the moment.

This episode of the SAG-AFTRA podcast revisits the Aug. 24 SAG-AFTRA President’s Task Force on Education, Outreach & Engagement livestream The Secret Science of Killer Cold Reading: A New Approach. The episode features acting coach Clay Banks, who details techniques performers can incorporate during cold reading auditions.

This episode is introduced by SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland.
