Affiliates to be SAG, AFTRA and AFRA

NEW YORK – The SAG AFTRA Relations Task Force and the AFTRA Strategic Alliances Committee – comprising the Joint Committee -- announced today decisions on recommended names for the proposed new union and affiliates.

The Committee will recommend that the new union be named the Alliance of International Media Artists (AIMA) and that the three Affiliates -- for Actors, Broadcasters and Recording Artists, respectively -- be called Screen Actors Guild (SAG), American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), and American Federation of Recording Artists (AFRA). The recommendations will be submitted to the National Boards of both unions when they meet jointly via videoconference on April 12 and 13.

SAG President Melissa Gilbert and AFTRA President John Connolly issued the following statement: “The group considered many possibilities and chose those that best identify media professionals who work around the globe in a variety of disciplines. The Committee recognizes the pride and respect members hold for both SAG and AFTRA and our rich legacies. We are delighted the Committee endorsed these traditions as we move into a new, global future with greater strength.”

The Committee continues to meet through Thursday in New York City.
