After a successful organizing campaign, content creators at Al Jazeera English overwhelmingly voted for SAG-AFTRA representation in late October 2018.

Al Jazeera English has become known for creating independent news and investigative content and programs. The bargaining unit consists of approximately 65 employees in bureaus located throughout the United States, including Miami, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. With the leadership and support of an employee-driven bargaining committee and SAG-AFTRA staff members across various departments and local offices, negotiations for a first contract began in January 2019 with a focus on wage increases and other work benefits, as well as establishing a more equitable and transparent workplace.

SAG-AFTRA returned to the table with Al Jazeera English in late June to continue bargaining for a first contract to establish and protect the terms and conditions of employment of its workers.
