Film production incentives have proven a powerful engine of economic development and job creation in several states and we believe the same can be true for Minnesota.

Your action is needed! A transferable tax credit film incentive bill was introduced in the Minnesota House and Senate this week. This is our big push to convince legislators that attracting the multi-billion dollar film and TV industry to Minnesota is important for the state.

Everyone should know that this is the largest grassroots effort ever undertaken to get a production incentive like this passed. It has never been done this way, and our local is a leader in the effort. It’s also important to know that if we do not succeed this year, there is no guarantee we will be able to generate this much enthusiasm again. And there will never be such an enormous backlog of productions waiting to happen. If we fail now we can’t simply say, “Maybe next time.” We may never see another opportunity like this again.

Take Action Right Now

We are asking all SAG-AFTRA Twin Cities Local members to send emails in support of the incentive to the members of the Senate and House Tax Committees. They are the key to passing this legislation. Please see this call to action for more details and information.

To make an even greater impact we ask that you be a motivating force in this effort. Please follow up with your fellow SAG-AFTRA members to see if they are sending emails. Encourage non-members, writers, producers, technicians, friends, family – anyone you know who has an interest in this to make their support heard. Contact them by email, phone, instant message, social media, whatever your or their preference is. If they haven’t seen the call to action, share it with them. Explain the importance. Ask them to share the call to action with their friends and colleagues too.

Social Media - Like, Heart, Comment & Share

If you’re on Facebook and see a post about the tax incentive or our call to action – like it, comment on it and share it. We have provided the Twitter handles of Tax Committee Members in our call to action. If you’re on Twitter, follow them, then mention/tag them in your Tweets and Retweets in support of the bill.

Reach out! Generate enthusiasm and support! Follow up, follow up, follow up!

We have only a short window of time. We need to act quickly. The more enthusiasm and support we generate behind this the greater impact we will have on the legislators. It will take ALL OF US to get it done!

Thank you!

In unity,

SAG-AFTRA Twin Cities Local
