The women of the Leder family on the importance of community in the industry.
The SAG-AFTRA President’s Task Force on Education, Outreach & Engagement presented Follow the Leders on June 21. In collaboration with the SAG-AFTRA National Women’s Committee and National NextGen Performers Committee, the panel featured members of the Leder family: director-producer Mimi Leder (The Morning Show); Paramount Television Studios Senior Vice President, Casting Geraldine Leder; writer-producer Stefanie Leder; and actor-filmmaker Hannah Leder (The Morning Show). Actor and National Women’s Committee Co-Chair Shari Belafonte (The Morning Show) moderated.
Topics discussed during the panel included the Leders’ experiences during the early days of the pandemic and the industry’s “new normal,” and challenges women face in today’s industry as they strive to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Each woman’s personal account noted how having personal and professional support systems have helped them to manage different parts of their lives.
“We don’t live in a country with [forms of aid like] built-in maternity leave. You have to build a village, even if it’s not [with your immediate family],” said Hannah Leder.
