SAG-AFTRA along with other entertainment and labor unions and the L.A. County Federation of Labor presented an unemployment insurance assistance webinar with guests from the California Employment Development Department (EDD) on April 14. The webinar focused on providing updated information about programs and benefits now available through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, as well as information on how entertainment industry workers can file for unemployment assistance. Tips, best practices and filing advice from the EDD webinar are posted here.

In addition, the EDD announced the opening of its new UI Online service, which offers applicants and claimants help with registration, site navigation and troubleshooting assistance (e.g. password resets).

And as of April 20, the California EDD’s new call center is now open with available customer service assistance at (833) 978-2511 from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily.

The EDD also has information specific to entertainment industry workers available on their website.

Remember, unemployment benefits are considered taxable income, so please plan accordingly.
