Dear Member,

SAG-AFTRA is on the front lines protecting the use of our members' digital voices and likenesses. Recent news proves that in addition to the protections our contracts provide, we urgently need federal and state regulations to put guardrails around the use of a performer's voice and likeness – the most essential parts of who we are and the work we do. To that end, we need you to take action today

Contact your New York State senator, and your state assembly member, and tell them to vote YES on the following bill:

DIGITAL REPLICA CONTRACTS S.7676-B (Ramos)/A.8138-A (Weinstein) - AN ACT to amend the general obligations law, in relation to contracts for the creation and use of digital replicas.

This bill requires employers to provide an opportunity for both informed consent and proper legal representation before the rights to the digital replication of voice or likeness in place of physical work can be licensed. Licenses for voice and likeness rights are sometimes buried within the fine print of contracts or terms of service, and performers inadvertently grant these rights without knowing the significance. We thank our sponsors, Senator Ramos and Assemblymember Weinstein, for championing these protections for SAG-AFTRA members, by prohibiting digital voice and likeness licenses without informed consent in New York State.

Forward together,

Ezra Knight
New York Local President
