It is time once again to apply for local positions on our standing and ad-hoc committees. Any member wishing to serve throughout the 2019-2021 term must apply, even if you have served in the past. No consideration will be given to local members who do not apply.
Each committee can have a minimum of three members, up to a maximum of 13 members. The maximum number of voting members per committee is nine, with a maximum of four alternates. Standing committees meet up to four times a year. Ad-hoc committees can meet less frequently and will report on an as-needed basis.
The deadline to apply by email with the below-requested information is 5 p.m. EST, Friday, Nov. 15. All applications must be sent to SAG-AFTRA Atlanta Local Executive Director Melissa Goodman at melissa.goodman@sagaftra.org.
Atlanta committees are listed below; candidates may apply for more than one committee. Your application email must consist of the following: Your committee preference(s) and a brief statement about your background and/or desire to serve. Only one statement is required per candidate. Do not include your full resume and DO NOT apply for specialized committees in which you have no professional experience or categorical alliance (e.g. Agent/Casting, Dancers, Diversity, New & NextGen, Inter-Union Relations, Stunts, Voiceover). Please note that an application does not guarantee placement.
Staff will review candidates for eligibility and the Atlanta Local Board will then make final selections. Members who are placed on committees will be contacted by the respective committee chairs.
Atlanta Standing Committees:
- Agent/Casting Relations: The primary goal of the Agent Relations Committee is to work with local franchised agents, ATA agents and local casting directors to discuss strategies for increasing work opportunities for local SAG-AFTRA members, including, but not limited to, concerns regarding training, self-taping, contracts, rates and local market trends. You must be a member with local agent representation.
- Diversity/EEO: This Atlanta Local committee focuses on increasing diversity and equal employment opportunities in SAG-AFTRA productions both in Georgia and around the Southeast. You must be a member of at least one recognized diversity profile.
- Indie Outreach: The goal of the Indie Outreach Committee is to raise awareness and educate independent filmmakers about the benefits of using SAG-AFTRA actors and turning indie productions into SAG-AFTRA signatory productions.
- The Muriel Moore/Danny Nelson SAG-AFTRA Conservatory: The twin goals of the Conservatory are to raise the bar of local professionals and build community amongst SAG-AFTRA actors in our marketplace. Each month the Conservatory hosts a speaker event and workshop that is free to members.
- New and NextGen Performers: This committee is intended to support the particular interests of new SAG-AFTRA Atlanta members and next-generation performers who are new to the market or new-joins within the last two years. Activities include new member orientations, basic contract introduction, organizing special social mixers and charitable fundraisers.
- Organizing: The Atlanta Organizing Committee is committed to the direct education of SAG-AFTRA pre-members and producers about the benefits of union affiliation with the intention of increasing union membership and jobs, even in a Right-to-Work state.
- Stunt & Safety: The Atlanta Stunt & Safety Committee is focused on the development of the local stunt community and raising awareness about set safety. You must be a professional stunt performer.
Atlanta Ad-Hoc Committees:
- Atlanta HealthNet: Atlanta HealthNet is a program that offers special discounts to active SAG-AFTRA and Equity members from local health care professionals. The committee researches new practitioners to add to a current list of network providers and acts as a liaison between providers and members. You must be willing to reach out to physicians and services to add to our local list. This committee may also sponsor local health events for members
- Dancers: This committee works with the National Dancer’s Alliance to identify and organize Atlanta work opportunities. You must belong to the professional dancer category.
- Inter-Union Relations: SAG-AFTRA, Equity and other local trade unions often share common goals and issues. We are looking for any SAG-AFTRA members who are dual cardholders with another trade union.
- Lend Me An Ear: Lend Me An Ear teams SAG-AFTRA members with Equity members in an annual fundraising evening of live old-time radio to benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank. You should be a past participant or have been involved with past productions.
- SAG Awards: The SAG Awards Committee organizes, manages and supports the annual member dinner broadcast.
- Voiceover: The voiceover business has changed even more rapidly than the on-camera business. This committee is focused on organizing voice talent and local producers. You must be a professional voiceover artist.
- Wages & Working (W&W) Conditions: The Atlanta W&W Committee meets prior to any national contract negotiation to organize and receive member input on a variety of contracts.
- Interactive Media Committee: This committee seeks to understand upcoming advances in both video games and other interactive production that affect our market. The committee should be populated by people who work on this contract which would include actors, stunt people and dancers in the areas of voiceover, motion capture and performance capture.
The highest calling and honor is service to others. Thank you for your interest in serving your fellow members!
