After five years as a SAG-AFTRA staff broadcast representative and attorney in the Chicago Local, Randy Choiniere has accepted a civilian attorney position at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska. His last day was July 11.
Highlights of Choiniere’s work on behalf of Chicago Local broadcasters include negotiating the first two contracts at Chicago Public Media (CPM), a successful National Labor Relations Board hearing to keep editors in the content creation unit at CPM, negotiating the first contract at the Better Government Association and an arbitration win against Cumulus regarding voice-tracking, to name a few.
“I consider Randy my battle buddy,” stated Antonio S. Correa, a SAG-AFTRA member, shop steward and promotions coordinator at union radio station WCPT. “If I told him my troops were ready to fight, he was ready to lead the battle. He is a fierce fighter at the negotiating table who didn’t back down easily. We were always thankful to have him on our side.”
“It has been a pleasure to work for the SAG-AFTRA membership these past five years,” Choiniere said. “Informed, active and engaged members are the essential foundation to SAG-AFTRA’s success. Keep up the hard work.”
Good luck, Randy!
