On Aug. 1, SAG-AFTRA members, WGA members, and supporters from around the city gathered for a press conference outside City Hall Park, ahead of the New York City Council Committee on Civil Service and Labor hearing on two resolutions supporting the WGA East and SAG-AFTRA in the two unions’ pursuit of a fair contract with the AMPTP.
The two resolutions were introduced by City Council members Amanda Farias and Carmen De La Rosa, and both were passed by the committee in the hearing that followed. SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher, New York Local President Ezra Knight, and Executive Director, Labor Policy and International Affairs Rebecca Damon all gave testimony on behalf of SAG-AFTRA members. The resolutions were later adopted by the full New York City Council on Aug. 3.
