Screenwriter Ronald Flagge with fellow members Michael Longfield and Francine Levenstein

The SAG-AFTRA New Orleans Local Conservatory Committee hosted a Scene to Screen reading of Ronald Flagge’s screenplay Just Let Me Play at Second Line Studios in the Lower Garden District on Nov. 16. It was the local’s fifth Scene to Screen reading, and featured 15 local SAG-AFTRA members, who read roles of famous people in this timely screenplay about Charlie Sifford, the first black PGA golfer, reported Artemis Preeshl, New Orleans Board member and Conservatory chair.

Scene to Screen provides an avenue for writers to hear professional actors read their original screenplays that have not yet been produced. Further, these new readings encourage SAG-AFTRA actors to incorporate cold reading skills into the read and network with fellow union members.

A recognizable and adaptable New Orleans actor and emerging screenwriter, Flagge was recognized at the event for the selection of his screenplay. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about history and social justice in sports.
