Once again, screeners were sent to eligible SAG-AFTRA members to cast their votes on the most outstanding performances of the year, and a SAG Awards viewing party was held at Gallagher’s Sports Grill in Phoenix on Jan. 27 to witness the outcome. The backroom venue provided multiple audio and visual technologies for the comfort and convenience of the 80-plus attendees, which included members, industry colleagues, family and friends.
National Board member Margie Ghigo emceed the event, along with Arizona-Utah Local President Joe Corcoran. Local Board members donated more than 50 door prizes, including gift cards and certificates, tickets, hair styling, clothing, flower arrangements, photography, donuts and dry cleaning. During commercial breaks, tickets were drawn for the prizes, along with swag provided by SAG-AFTRA. Ghigo’s grandson Kobe called out the winning numbers and distributed the prizes.
A touching tribute was shared honoring Sanford “Sandy” L. Gibbons, the iconic SAG-AFTRA member and longtime union leader who passed away on Dec. 29. His usual table displayed his photo in his memory.
