Constituent Call to Action: Conference Committee on Taxes

It is an exciting time in the Minnesota Legislature. The expanded film tax incentive bill is currently part of the Tax Omnibus bill. We need an additional outreach push to get it over the finish line. Expanding the film tax incentive will make Minnesota an even better place to make movies and TV shows.

We are asking SAG-AFTRA members who are constituents of these legislators to reach out to conferees on the Conference Committee on Taxes via email and/or phone. Please do this ASAP. See talking points below.

I’m reaching out to you as a constituent regarding the Film Production Tax Credit. I am very supportive of expanding this program. I urge you to support the House version of this expansion to the full $25 million per year.
 
Please include in your outreach:

1. Mention you are a constituent.
2. Include your address so they know you are a constituent.
3. Mention you are in the industry.
4. Personalize your message, perhaps with a brief industry story.
5. Encourage them to support the House version, which calls for a $25 million annual cap.
6. You may have seen statistics from Minnesota or other states about how tax credits grow the film/TV industry, but it’s more powerful to tell them what these changes to the film tax credit will do FOR YOU (jobs, income, family, home, etc.).
7. If you are a vendor - include how the changes will affect YOUR business and your return on investment.
