A.I. is here. We’ve got you covered.

While SAG-AFTRA embraces A.I.’s creative potential, appropriate terms and conditions must be in place to protect performers.
Human creators are the foundation of the creative industries and we must ensure that they are respected and paid for their work. Trustworthiness and transparency are essential to the success of A.I.
Simulated performances are covered under Global Rule One – our core principle of unity and solidarity – so members should never assign these rights to any employer who has not executed a basic minimum agreement with the union.
Consent must be given. Compensation must be agreed to. Work must be covered by a SAG-AFTRA contract. Always.
SAG-AFTRA’s guiding principles for A.I. rights include:
  • Safe storage and protection of digital replications of a performer’s voice, likeness and performance.
  • The right to consent to — or prohibit — the creation of a digital replica
  • The right to negotiate limitations on uses of the digital replica.
  • Appropriate payment for use of the AI content.
  • Any exclusivity must be clearly noted and fairly compensated.
  • The right to opt out of continued use of the digital replica in new works.
If you’re offered a contract you believe includes A.I. rights, email it to SAG-AFTRA at aiquestions@sagaftra.org for review, and we’ll let you know how best to protect your rights.
You can also email aiquestions@sagaftra.org with any questions about riders, authorizations or improper use.
Remember, one of the best protections against the unauthorized digital simulation of your voice, likeness and/or performance is a SAG-AFTRA contract.
