EVP and New York Local President Rebecca Damon recognized for her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic.

SAG-AFTRA Executive Vice President and New York Local President Rebecca Damon was among those featured in City & State New York’s 2020 Labor Power 100 list. The annual list, which highlights the work of New York’s most influential labor leaders, this year recognized those who contributed to the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is Damon’s second consecutive year she’s been named to the list.

Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in March, Damon has worked tirelessly on behalf of the safety and wellbeing of New York Local members. As local president, she has taken a proactive stance in informing members about the lockdown and reopening proceedings that took place in the spring and summer, and ensured that performers were aware of helpful state resources.

“Our progress relies on everyone remaining vigilant by physical distancing, wearing a mask, practicing good hand-washing hygiene,” said Damon in a July 20 message. “You are in my thoughts and I hope you are staying safe as we enter the next part of this journey.”

On a national scale, she has also worked with other union leaders, industry professionals and elected leaders in re-opening the industry, and was instrumental in developing the comprehensive safety document The Safe Way Forward.

Damon, an actor and voiceover performer, has served two consecutive terms as president of the SAG-AFTRA New York Local. In addition to her role as executive vice president, she is the national chair of the Government Review Committee and Innovation & New Technology Committee; serves on the Executive, Finance and Government Affairs & Public Policy committees; and plays an active role as chair of the Member Outreach Relations & Education Committee. As a fierce advocate for the empowerment of performers, Damon was also instrumental in the passing of New York’s most comprehensive right of publicity bill to date
