“Diversity is being invited to the party; inclusion is being asked to dance.”

The 28th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards featured history-making wins for performers with disabilities, Asian, Afro-Latina and LGBTQ-identifying performers. Representation matters, and it was indeed heartening to see a range of performers from underrepresented communities included in the list of nominees and winners. However, there is still plenty of work to do.
The Atlanta Local’s Diversity/EEO Committee is developing programming to highlight diverse performers and strategies to address the challenges these performers encounter in the workplace. The committee’s first initiative is something that requires input from everyone. The member demographic survey was launched by the national office of Equity and Inclusion.
“This profile information is a valuable tool in helping determine the underrepresented communities we need to advocate for on the national and local levels,” said Nikki Young, Atlanta Local Board member and chair of the Diversity/EEO Committee.
We encourage everyone to complete their demographic profile so that your community will be seen. Our diversity is our strength. Let’s work together to ensure that we can collectively lift each other up. Watch this video for more information and go to your SAG-AFTRA account to update your demographic profile.
