DOUG ALLEN HIRED AS NATIONAL EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND CHIEF NEGOTIATOR

Los Angeles (October 21, 2006) --- The Screen Actors Guild national board of directors voted unanimously today to hire National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) veteran Doug Allen as national executive director and chief negotiator.

Allen comes to SAG from the NFL Players Association in Washington D.C., where he has served as assistant executive director for almost 20 years. Allen is credited with founding Players Inc., the successful marketing and licensing subsidiary of the NFLPA. He has also served as president of that organization since 1994. The NFLPA represents 1,800 active players and 10,000 retirees, and is affiliated with the AFL-CIO.

Allen issued the following statement after accepting the SAG NED position: “Screen Actors Guild is a magnificent union with a proud history of service to its members. Being selected the Guild’s national executive director is both a great opportunity and a great challenge. I look forward to working every day with the members, the board, the officers, the branches and the staff to improve the professional, family and personal lives of all actors. I am grateful to the SAG board for its vote of confidence, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Doug Allen’s tenure with the NFLPA and its professional membership provides the unique perspective that we have been searching for over the last year. Allen is the perfect executive to lead us into our 2008 negotiations from a position of strength and knowledge, and the right person to continue the unification so vital to our union.”

Allen was selected by the Guild’s Executive Search Committee through an exhaustive national search, and came before the entire national board at its plenary meeting at the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel early Saturday. The board endorsed Allen, who will relocate to Los Angeles and officially join the Guild staff on January 8, 2007. His contract runs for three years. Interim NED Peter C. Frank will continue as interim NED and become the union’s chief administrative officer/chief financial officer in January.

Allen earned his Bachelors of Arts Degree at Pennsylvania State University in Labor Studies and Industrial Relations before playing two seasons at linebacker for the Buffalo Bills. He currently serves as secretary treasurer of the Federation of Professional Athletes, AFL-CIO, the organization formed to affiliate with the AFL-CIO and to organize new areas in the athletic industry.

National Secretary-Treasurer Connie Stevens supported the hiring of Allen by saying: “I find this gentleman to have tremendous personal strength and focused dedication to professional ethics, and the remarkable ability to concentrate on, dissect and resolve problems. Everything about Doug Allen evokes integrity.”
