To provide a method of information dissemination that our members are literally begging for; and to even the playing field by providing the same access to this vital means of communication that some Locals already enjoy.
EQUAL TREATMENT IN ORGANIZING OPPORTUNITIES ON FACEBOOK
WHEREAS social media is the cornerstone of staying relevant in modern communication; and
WHEREAS SAG-AFTRA has embraced social media in both philosophy and practice; and
WHEREAS access to a Facebook page greatly expands opportunities for Locals to do internal organizing and communicate effectively with members;
WHEREAS it is crucial to the well-being of the Union to foster a greater sense of community and solidarity among the membership of every Local, and effective communication is at the heart of any attempt to create community; and
WHEREAS each SAG-AFTRA Local has its own unique needs, characteristics, sensibilities, and quirks; and
WHEREAS the creation of a simple Facebook page is easily done in concert with the National Communications Department, and such pages are easily maintained by Local staff in accordance with National standards and practices; and
WHEREAS some Locals already have such Facebook pages, which are maintained with very minimal staff time; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Communications Department shall work with each Local that wishes to maintain a Facebook page for the purpose of disseminating information to the members of that Local, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that that such information includes, but is not limited to, announcements of membership and committee meetings, Conservatory events, news of interest about the local labor movement, labor actions in the community, and any other communication which the Union and/or Local might wish to share with that Local's membership.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that such pages will have comments disabled.

Some Locals have them already, and staff has testified that the time required of them is quite minimal. For a Local in a union in the 21st Century, it's counter-productive and counter-intuitive to not have a Facebook page available for info about meetings, rallies, other labor actions in our communities, etc. This is doubly true when it is available to some Locals and not others.
