Via mainstream acting theories and techniques, proven exercises and improvisation, students are exposed to the stylish and technical demands of camera performance. With emphasis on the ensemble and exposure, today’s audition obligations, to understanding how multi-media training relates to a 21st century actor, we will explore, challenge, and apply the vernacular, etiquette, discipline, and nuance of acting, and note how the process of storytelling applies to the actor.

SF-NC Conservatory Preparing for Your Voiceover Demo Workshop

Sally Clawson, with Voice One, is offering a free workshop with the SAG-AFTRA San Francisco-Northern California Local Conservatory. Space is limited and accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  Sally Clawson brings over 25 years of voiceover experience, alongside a dynamic career as a voice teacher, speech coach, actor, and performer. A former professional dancer,     she toured internationally with the Margaret Jenkins Dance Company until a hip injury led her to discover the power of her voice.

  After training at Voice One, the school she now proudly owns, Sally embarked on a successful voiceover career while inspiring the next generation of talent. As a sought-after     educator and corporate trainer, Sally teaches voice, acting, and performance workshops across the Bay Area and beyond.

  Her corporate training clients include Genentech, Amgen, AppFolio, Planful, AC Transit, and more. Additionally, Sally is a certified executive coach through UC Berkeley's Haas     School of Business, helping professionals elevate their communication skills. Her impressive voiceover portfolio includes work for top brands like Clorox, Toyota, Macy's, Old       Navy, McDonald’s, Yoplait, Pixar, Apple, Google, Microsoft, EA Games, Telltale Games, and Lucas Arts.

Preparing for Your Demo is a workshop designed to demystify the demo-making process from start to finish.

In this session, we’ll cover:

  • The purpose of a VO demo and what it should include

  • How to showcase your voice and personality

  • Script selection and curation strategies

  • A roadmap for creating your demo when the time is right

We’ll also listen to sample demos and discuss what makes them effective!

Talent Agent Speed Dating For Unrepresented Talent

Are you an unrepresented SAG-AFTRA member from the Chicago Local? Are you looking to take your career to the next level? Ever wish you could have one-on-one time with a franchised agent? If so, this Talent Agent Speed Dating For Unrepresented Talent event may be exactly what you need!

Join us May 5, where each participant will have the chance to meet with multiple franchised agencies in the Chicago local area! Currently confirmed for attendance are representatives from Gray Talent Group, The Rock Agency, Talent X Alexander, SCE Agency, Ambassador Talent, and Lily's Talent Agency. This is your opportunity to connect with an agent in a casual, fun, and low-pressure setting. While you are not guaranteed to meet with every participating agent/agency, your digital submission packet will be shared with all participating agencies, giving them the chance to review your materials before and after the event!

This is a fast-paced, closely-timed Conservatory, so we need to do some pre-production to make sure it all goes smoothly. Here's what you'll need to do:

  • First, register for this event below (you must be logged in to register). 

  • Next, submit a digital package of your materials (details to follow in your confirmation email). 

  • Pending receipt of your digital package, you will be issued a unique/specific appointment time.

  • The day of the event (May 5), please be sure to bring additional hard copy headshots and resumes for the agencies. YOU MUST BE ON TIME. We are scheduling members in specific time blocks. If you miss your time slot, there's no way to make it up. (Just come early and you'll have no worries.) 
     

Please note: You will receive a confirmation email with additional details after registering for this event. Please follow the instructions in order to guarantee your reserved timeslot. You will be asked to submit a digital submission package that includes the following:

  • 1 Resume

  • 1-2 Headshots

  • On-camera Video and/or 1 Voiceover Demo Sample (tape or demo reel, 1-2-minute max)

Deadline: All submission packages are due no later than April 21 to allow agents time to review your materials.

Join us for the next performance in our San Francisco-Northern California Local Conservatory Screenplay Reading Series:  Colma by Peter K. Owen

LOGLINE - A couple returns home from Thanksgiving to find their beloved elderly neighbor has died on his kitchen floor. In their shock and grief, they struggle through the coming days. Feeling isolated and ignored they seek some form of closure.
 
SYNOPSIS - A couple experiences air turbulence on a flight home from Thanksgiving. As they make their way from SFO, something is amiss. It's too quiet. Are people actively ignoring them? They arrive home to find their beloved neighbor, Aaron, dead on his kitchen floor. Traumatized and grieving their loss, they resolve to attend his funeral despite having no connections to Aaron's family. After the funeral, things remain strange. They try to go about their lives, but they see Aaron everywhere. Or they seem to, as his visage changes into everyday people they come into contact with. They decide to re-visit his grave in a final attempt to figure it out.
 
WRITER/FILMMAKER BIO - Peter K. Owen is a SAG-AFTRA actor with experience in feature film, film shorts, TV commercials and industrials. He also has a long history of stage experience in the SF Bay Area, other regions, and NYC. Seeking more interesting and meaningful theatrical film experiences, he has taken up screenwriting with the goal of producing his own work. He is currently developing the short film, 'COLMA'. COLMA was inspired by a real series of events.

This class is designed to help students achieve a successful commercial audition in a fun and informative environment. The class consists of working with Commercial copy board and hand held paper copy. Various techniques are used to achieve a natural, honest, and unique audition. Improvisation techniques may also be used. Students may bring their own material or use commercial copy available. Auditions are played back and reviewed.
