Inclusivity was the theme at this year’s “Holiday Edition” of the San Francisco-based Bay Area Film Mixer. The event was held at PianoFight in San Francisco, where over 100 members of the city’s film community, including member Lara Jean Mummert, mingled over cocktails, a taco meal and a screening of locally produced projects.
Dave Moutray co-founded the Bay Area Film Mixer 11 years ago. The Mixer’s Dec. 7 Holiday Edition kicked off at 7 p.m. and was only its second in-person event since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The evening’s attendees adhered to a strict COVID protocol, which included color-coded bracelets, self-selected by each wearer, indicating a comfort level of contact, be it a handshake, fist bump or even a quick hug. Moutray says creating such a safe and supportive environment allowed film producers to relax and reconnect with local talent, with a long-term goal of job creation and performer talent retention within San Francisco’s film community.
“I want to inspire attendees to be better at what they do,” explained Moutray. “Hire SAG-AFTRA actors. Hire actors that have experience. If they are SAG-AFTRA actors, they are taking their craft seriously.”
