On April 15, the Arizona-Utah Local held its Utah membership meeting in Salt Lake City. The attending membership was a good mix of smiles and personalities from longtime members to the brand new.
The meeting began with a welcome, introductions and info about local union happenings from Arizona-Utah Local President Joe Corcoran. National Board member Margie Ghigo followed by sharing information about national initiatives. Local Board member Chad Wright shared his insights on information specific to Utah and tips for on-set safety, set conduct and networking. Director of Locals Administration Lisha Brock gave a presentation loaded with information on how to flip a job union and garnered a lot of interest from the members.
Members asked insightful questions about the Short Project, Micro-Budget and other low budget entertainment contracts; the Corporate/Educational Code and the Arizona-Utah Regional Commercials Code. After the presentation and Q&A, new members B.J. Harrison, Herb Jackson Jr., Aaron Kawcak, Cindy Kay and Luiz Laffey were honored in a pinning ceremony and, with smiles on their faces and SAG-AFTRA pins in hand, they were welcomed with a large round of applause. As the meeting closed, everyone mingled, ate and got to know each other. Local committee member Dale McKeel shared, “It was a great end to a great meeting with great people.”
