The Hawaii Local annual membership meeting took place on Wednesday, April 13, via Zoom from noon to 1 p.m. It was called to order by Hawaii Local President Andrea Sikkink.

President’s Report

Sikkink welcomed everyone to the Hawaii Local’s annual membership meeting, which was virtual, and reported that she hoped the next one would be able to be held in person.

Sikkink thanked the 60 guests and board members for attending and for their support of SAG-AFTRA and our Hawaii Local. She also thanked Local Executive Director Mericia Palma Elmore for her tireless efforts on all our behalf and all of the volunteer Hawaii Local Board members for their hard work since coming into office in September 2021. Sikkink reported that the Hawaii Local Board has committees meeting virtually every quarter and that four committees have already met via Zoom this quarter and begun work. She ended her report with the phrase, “Pupukahi i holomua,” which translated means, “Unite to move forward!”

National Board Member Report

Henry Ian Cusick reported on information from the National Board meetings he participated in. A summary of the report can be found here.

Local Executive Director Report

Elmore made a presentation with background on our national union and the state of our local. She also reviewed the contracts under which our members work and member earnings. Members were encouraged to check the online membership app for a list of current union productions and confirming the proper paperwork is on file before agreeing to work on a production.

Communications and Legislative Reports

Co-Chairs Deb Glazier and Colby Haines of the Communications Committee reported that the local newsletters are now all digital and that the committee welcomes article ideas and submissions from the membership.

Local Vice President Charles Uyehara provided a Legislative Committee report and reminded members that the film incentives for the State of Hawaii help major television shows and movies gain some tax relief and credits when they commit to filming in our state.
