The Houston-Austin Local held its first in-person conservatory event of the year in Houston on May 20. The Houston-Austin Conservatory Committee welcomed fellow member Richard Robichaux as our guest teacher for an in-depth actors workshop. Robichaux, known for his prolific body of work on television, film and the stage, teaches just a handful of students each year at his studio in Austin, Texas. The local was thrilled to kick off the conservatory season with this wildly successful class conducted by a world-class educator.

Attendees were provided with uniform sides to prepare a few days prior to the event. After a long, exhilarating group warm-up, participants were invited to perform the sides in front of the cameras. After the class was recorded, the gang at Houston Media Source played back the auditions and Robichaux gave personalized feedback to everyone who performed. Robichaux took his time and made sure to give each member plenty of attention. His notes were thought-provoking and insightful.

The venue at Houston Media Source was extraordinary. We were excited to partner with HMS, which provides Houston-area residents with media production training, access to equipment, and a variety of services for the community at large. For more information on Houston Media Source, you can visit its website here.

We’re extremely grateful to Robichaux, who traveled to Houston and took time from his family and busy schedule to work with our members. He spent a considerable amount of time helping our members see the joy in their craft and created a setting in which everyone felt comfortable and empowered to showcase their talents. You can learn more about Robichaux by visiting his website here.

Thank you to all the members who attended this event and the leaders who helped us organize it. We’re excited about the future and the opportunity to provide our membership with more in-person activities and opportunities to develop their talents.
