Members gathered in person for a Coffee Connection at Publix in Salt Lake City on March 22 and chatted for hours. Local Board member Chad Wright hosted the event, assisted by local member Mimi Cruz. Highlights included discussions about the importance of training, keeping your skills sharp when you’re not on set, and resources on where to find career help, such as SAG-AFTRA videos. Members can search for productions in Utah online at Utah Film Commission and the union’s Production Listings. In between acting jobs, it was suggested that actors consider potential jobs in the industry outside of performing and foster those industry relationships. Safety on set was emphasized, as Wright said, “Remember, always, you have one body and hundreds of productions to choose from and a lifetime of work.” Also discussed was the importance of keeping in contact with your agent, letting them know your availability, and keeping your photo and resume up to date. Members left feeling connected and more empowered to take control of their careers.
