SAG-AFTRA Senior Advisor John McGuire was one of five recipients of the 2018 DGA Honors, held on Thursday, October 18 in New York City.  DGA Honors recognizes individuals and institutions that have made distinguished contributions to American culture through the world of film and television, and recognizes the diversity of achievement – in business, government, and labor – required to produce the best entertainment in the world.

McGuire, who in 2019 will mark fifty years of service with SAG-AFTRA and Screen Actors Guild, was praised as a leader who has fought not only for SAG-AFTRA members, but for the rights of all entertainment industry workers.  He has been involved in all of the Union’s major contract negotiations for decades, and remains an invaluable source of historical knowledge, perspective, and wisdom.  He has represented SAG-AFTRA with other national labor unions and internationally with performer organizations around the world.  McGuire holds or has held positions in various entertainment-related organizations, including Trustee of the SAG-AFTRA Health Plan, Trustee of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, Secretary of the Motion Picture Players Welfare Fund, VP and Founding Director, Museum of the Moving Image, President, Council of Motion Picture & Television Unions of New York City, and more.

Among SAG-AFTRA members and staff, and throughout the entertainment industry, John McGuire commands the highest levels of respect and admiration.  Congratulations on this well-deserved honor.

Other recipient of the 2018 DGA Honors were director Ang Lee, Fox Searchlight Chairman Nancy Utley, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar, and costume designer Ann Roth.
