Dear Fellow SAG-AFTRA New York Members,
Put on your oven mitts, SAG-AFTRA is having a bake sale.
Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH) recently illegally abandoned its union contract, claiming it no longer applies to them. Poor BBH makes millions in revenue, but they simply can’t afford to pay performers a living wage. We have had a nearly 20-year relationship with BBH, and since we’ve been together that long, we thought we’d help out. We want to help them make ends meet by selling sweet baked goods so they can pocket more of those sweet corporate profits.
We hope you’ll join us because shirking contractual responsibilities is not the way the cookie crumbles.
But while we’re throwing a bake sale to draw attention to BBH’s hypocrisy, this is a serious issue.
Collective action is the source of a union’s power and without it, SAG-AFTRA couldn’t ensure members are paid fairly for the work they do and have safe working conditions. When employers turn their back on our contracts, they threaten our livelihoods, our health and our safety. That’s when we need to band together to speak up or risk seeing the gains for which we’ve fought so hard slip away.
I am asking each of you to attend to demonstrate our strength. Click here to RSVP that you will be there.
WHEN: Thursday, Nov. 1
TIME: Meet at 11:30 a.m. We have some surprises! The first 100 members to arrive will receive a free SAG-AFTRA t-shirt!
