Great news! Out of 200 legislators, 114 have sponsored or co-sponsored legislation (HD 388/SD 424) to remove the pending sunset clause of the Massachusetts Film and TV Production Incentive to keep these jobs coming to Massachusetts!

The Massachusetts Film and TV Production Incentive Program is an economic engine that has created a vibrant film production ecosystem across the Commonwealth. This ecosystem has spurred jobs, built new businesses to support the industry, supported small businesses and vendors, and kept careers in this industry here at home in Massachusetts. All that will come to an end if the program is allowed to sunset in 2022 as the program is currently designed to do. This couldn’t possibly come at a worse time for our local industry as episodic television series filming is growing here in Massachusetts.

Over the past two weeks, you and other supporters of the Massachusetts Film and TV Production Incentive Program have sent nearly 2,000 emails into the state house asking your legislators to keep film jobs in Massachusetts by eliminating the sunset clause of the program

That’s a great start! But there is a lot more work to be done.

Next steps in the legislative process:

  • Over the next couple of weeks, our bill will be given a formal bill number and assigned to a specific legislative committee.
  • The committee will hold a public hearing on the bill where we will look to have a big turnout and have supporters testify in favor of the bill.
  • We will be working, with your help, to have the committee vote in support of the bill and send it to the full house and senate for votes.

What you can do!

  • Say "Thank You": If your state senator and/or state representative has cosponsored this legislation, drop them a line and thank them for their support. You can find your state representatives here: https://malegislature.gov/Search/FindMyLegislator.
  • Be Active: There is nothing more impactful to convince a legislator about the importance of eliminating the sunset and keeping this vibrant industry here to stay than your personal story.
    • We are going to ask you to attend your legislators coffee hours in your community and tell them first hand about the jobs and careers that exist now in Massachusetts because of this program.
    • We are going to want you to go on social media and talk about the jobs and careers that have been built and maintained because of the ecosystem that has been created in Massachusetts.
    • Over the upcoming months, we are going to be calling on you to email your state legislators, call them, attend district events to showcase the industry, attend the committee hearing, and attend lobby day at the State House.
  • Stay Informed: More updates will be coming from your union. Please keep a sharp eye out for more events and actions you can take.
