On Saturday, Aug. 17, SAG-AFTRA members in Utah gathered at the Salt Lake City Public Library for the annual Arizona-Utah Local membership meeting. The event brought together union members, new inductees and local leaders for a morning of updates, networking and community building.
The meeting kicked off with guest speaker Jeff Johnson, president and political strategist of the Motion Picture Alliance of Utah and a seasoned CSA casting director. Johnson’s insights into the evolving entertainment landscape in Utah and his strategies for advocating for local talent provided valuable information and inspiration for attendees.
Following Johnson’s address, Arizona-Utah Local President Amanda Melby, National Board member Margie Ghigo and Local Executive Director Lisha Brock provided key updates on union initiatives that aim to support SAG-AFTRA members in the region. An open Q&A session allowed members to engage directly with leadership and staff, ask questions and share their thoughts on matters affecting them.
The meeting also featured a segment recognizing new members who joined in the past year. These individuals were welcomed into the SAG-AFTRA family and presented with their union pin. Additionally, members who recently transferred to the Arizona-Utah Local were acknowledged, celebrating their new affiliation.
The event concluded with a networking lunch, providing a relaxed atmosphere for members to forge new professional relationships. Events like the annual membership meeting play a crucial role in strengthening the community and ensuring that members are informed, empowered and connected.
