KUOW and University of Washington have offered to purchase KPLU, an independent public radio station and member of NPR. If that purchase goes through, KPLU and much of its programming, such as BirdNote, Sound Effect and Food for Thought, along with other programs, will disappear.

However, the University of Washington has agreed to allow extra time – until June 30, 2016 – to see if the community supports KPLU enough to raise the $7 million needed to buy the station and continue to run it independent of KUOW. The SAG-AFTRA members who make up KPLU’s award-winning news team and jazz and blues staff are working to make this a reality.
