The SAG-AFTRA Los Angeles Local Board met virtually on July 8 with observers.

The L.A. Local Board set aside a time of special recognition for SAG-AFTRA members Johnny Wactor and David Westberg, who had passed away recently.

Wactor was tragically killed on May 25 while leaving his job at a local bar. His most notable work was on General Hospital.

Westberg was a decades-long union volunteer, serving on several committees, establishing the L.A. Radio Play Committee and serving as chairman of the Board of Directors for the SAG-AFTRA Federal Credit Union.

The Local Board also reviewed administrative and contract matters and received reports, including:

President’s Report

Los Angeles Local President Jodi Long gave brief remarks regarding the different engagements she has had representing SAG-AFTRA and our Local membership. Long most recently met with California lawmakers and testified in support of the SAG-AFTRA-sponsored bill AB 1836 in Sacramento.

Long encouraged Board members to stay engaged with the union and with legislation impacting the industry.

Committee Reports

Los Angeles Local Committees provided the board with updates on the areas in which they are working. Notably, the L.A. Local SARP Committee hosted its 32nd radio play in honor of Westberg, its late founder who passed away on June 12. General Membership Meeting

There was discussion about the recent L.A. Local general membership meeting, and recommendations were made regarding alternative formats for future membership meetings. More information about the 2024 L.A. Local membership meeting can be found here.
