As a part of the annual L.A. Local membership meeting held on June 8, members gathered to honor two L.A. Local members who have made profound contributions to our community.
Former SAG President Alan Rosenberg and SAG-AFTRA member Kitty Swink were given the Ralph Morgan Award, which is the highest honor the Los Angeles Local can bestow. It is awarded by the L.A. Local Honors and Tributes Committee and recognizes service by Los Angeles members and staff. It stands as a beacon of recognition, shining a light on individuals who exemplify the highest standards of service to SAG-AFTRA.
Named in honor of Ralph Morgan, the first president of the Screen Actors Guild, this award, sculpted by the late actor George Montgomery, pays tribute to the substantial risks Morgan assumed in accepting the presidency when his contemporaries elected him at SAG’s first meeting following its incorporation on July 12, 1933.
The words inscribed on the award — “Devotion to the cause of actors, courage to fight for the right and sacrifice of self for others” — not only describe Ralph Morgan’s contributions to the union but also speak to the spirit of the award and its legacy.
The recipients are catalysts for positive change, leaving an indelible mark on our membership. Through their tireless efforts, they embody the very essence of volunteerism, inspiring others to join the fight for better wages and working conditions.
SAG-AFTRA member Jackie Joseph was also on hand to celebrate, having been given the honor prior to the 2023 TV/Theatrical/Streaming Strike. Rosenberg accepted his award virtually, while Swink accepted in person.
