The Los Angeles Local held the first in-person general membership meeting since 2019 on June 8, marking a significant return to regular union activities. The event kicked off with an expo where members engaged with various Los Angeles Local committees, had the opportunity to pose questions to SAG-AFTRA staff, and gained insights into SAG-AFTRA support organizations.
The meeting itself featured remarks from L.A. Local officers, including Local President Jodi Long, First Vice President Sheryl Lee Ralph and Second Vice President David Jolliffe. Remarks were followed by presentations from National Executive Director & Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, who offered insights into current priorities related to artificial intelligence, and L.A. Local Executive Director Serena Kung, who reminded members about the many ways SAG-AFTRA supports members and how to engage with their union in Los Angeles.
The remainder of the meeting, organized in a town hall format, allowed members to ask questions and share their perspectives on union affairs. Additionally, five advisory motions were proposed during the meeting and subsequently forwarded to the Los Angeles Local Board for review and consideration.
The event not only served as a vital platform for union updates and recognition but also fostered a sense of community and engagement among the Los Angeles Local members after a prolonged period of virtual interactions.
A highlight of the gathering was the presentation of the Ralph Morgan Award, which honors outstanding dedication and service to the union. You can find out more information about the Ralph Morgan Award and this year’s recipients here.
