Dear Member,
I am excited to inform everyone that two new film incentive bills — now being referred to as the Multimedia Jobs Act — were introduced in the State Legislature on June 28. Michigan Senate Bill 438 and Senate Bill 439 are sponsored by the following senators: Dayna Polehanki, Erika Geiss, Paul Wojno, Veronica Klinefelt and Jeremy Moss. Both bills have been referred to the Committee on Economic and Community Development. Here are links to the full text of SB 438 and SB 439 so you can read them.
After the holiday, please check your emails for some calls to action. We will be asking you to reach out to your elected officials in Lansing to let them know you support these incentives and to let them know what it will bring to Michigan. We plan to have a Lobby Day up in Lansing this summer to demonstrate our support for the bills.
I hope everyone has a safe, happy and healthy Canada Day and Fourth of July! I’m looking forward to us all working together to get these bills passed into law this year!
In unity,
Eric Wydra
Michigan Local President
