In this season of thanks, I open with gratitude to all of the SAG-AFTRA members who make their voices heard. We’re entering one of the most important times for member engagement — the Wages and Working conditions meetings (the “W&Ws”) which take place ahead of the negotiation of our largest agreements — the Producer-SAG-AFTRA Codified Basic Agreement and the SAG-AFTRA Television Agreement (collectively, the “TV/Theatrical Contracts”). This process is scheduled to begin nationwide on Dec. 5. Check here for the current schedule of national and New York Local meetings. I strongly encourage you to participate. It’s essential that we hear how the contracts are working for you and the changes you want to see.
To understand how we get to where we’re going, we need to be clear about where we are. Thus, SAG-AFTRA will first host national videoconferences on The Landscape of Scripted Dramatic Live Action Entertainment. This presentation will explore the current climate under which SAG-AFTRA will be negotiating the TV/Theatrical Contracts. Members in good standing will have four opportunities to attend this virtual presentation. Visit the website for details and to RSVP.
Lastly, I wish you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving. I hope that your holiday celebrations are happy and, most importantly, safe. NYC is currently at a cautionary “code yellow.” The CDC urges everyone to stay current on their coronavirus vaccines, and to get the bivalent booster which is formulated to boost immunity against omicron and its subsequent variants. For information on where to get your booster in New York City please visit vaccinefinder.nyc.gov. You can also find information about free testing locations at nyc.gov/covidtest. Click on the included links for specific COVID-19 information and resources for our members living outside of the city in New York State, New Jersey and Connecticut.
Forward together,
Ezra Knight
New York Local President
