Audition for the SAG-AFTRA Radio Plays

Please note: The registration form opens Tuesday, May 28 at 10 a.m. 

RSVPs made prior to 10 a.m., May 28, will not be accepted. Registrations will not be accepted over the phone. Members will only be able to sign up via the the form below starting at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 28 until capacity is reached.

 

Audition for the SAG-AFTRA Radio Plays, taking place at the Autry Museum on June 26. This show will feature the following radio plays:

  • Brief Encounter - This radio adaptation of Brief Encounter brings Noel Coward’s iconic film to life as we hear what happens when a chance meeting between two married people at a NY train station launches a love affair that threatens to derail their marriages. Click here to listen to the radio show.
  • Gunsmoke episode, "Chester’s Dilemma" - Gunsmoke was a hit radio show from 1957 - 1961. It became a highly rated TV series from 1955-1975 on CBS. We will be performing the episode: Chester's Dilemma, which first aired on Jan. 30, 1960. Please become familiar with the beloved regular characters and the close relationships they had with each other. Click here to listen to the radio show.

Auditions will be open to all members in good standing. Please remember, this is RADIO. Looks are not considered, only the tenor, timber and expertise of your voice.

The performance will take place at the Wells Fargo Theatre at the Autry Museum of the American West in Griffith Park. If selected, your presence will be needed all day on June 26. Other rehearsals will be scheduled around cast members’ availability.

If selected, more details will be provided for rehearsals. This is an unpaid stage performance of an Old Time Radio show presented to a live audience. Casting will be based on vocal quality and characterizations. We are committed to diverse, inclusive casting. This will be a hybrid Zoom/In-person (at the Hawaii Local Office) event.  Space at the local office is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.  When registering you will be given a Zoom link unless you email mericia.palmaelmore@sagaftra.org ASAP noting your preference to attend in person.  You must receive CONFIRMATION from the Local Office for in-person attendance.  Please do not arrive at the office if you are not confirmed to attend in person.

Actors Helping Actors - Maui Scene Study

Actors will meet to work on scenes and audition materials to hone their skills and prepare for future auditions. Please bring your material to work on.

Analyzing Audition Sides - WMA Spring Conservatory

Please join Casting Director Jenny Ravitz on Wednesday, May 29 for an evening of analyzing sides for guest star and series regular auditions. In this class, you will have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss the best ways to prep, and explore how to analyze the script to make sure you are prepared for your next audition. 

Jenny Ravitz is a New York-based casting director whose past work includes the hit NBC series Chicago PD, Chicago Fire, and Chicago Med; FBI: International (CBS), and the indie film Pretty People, which debuted at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. She is currently working independently and recently cast projects for Ars Nova, 5th Avenue Theatre and Paper Mill Playhouse. She is an advocate for artists with chronic pain and illnesses and was named the 2021 Volunteer of the Year by the Arthritis Foundation of New York.

"I BOOKED IT!" - from Self-Tape to Final Take!

Join us on June 3 from 6-8pm for the SAG-AFTRA Chicago Conservatory presention "I BOOKED IT" - an evening that showcases how Chicago's very own are getting it done. From self-tapes to working the TV/film landscapes, we'll be showcasing, gaining insight, and highlighting actors who've crossed the threshold from their self tape to final take.
