Audition Critique with Heather Whitty, May 15 - morning session

Audition Critique with Heather Whitty gives members an opportunity to receive one-on-one audition feedback from a seasoned casting director and acting coach.

When: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 23

Heather Whitty of Whitty Studios will review your headshot and resume. She will give you tips on what to highlight and what to edit. She’ll also have you read a prepared monologue and your audition will be taped and she will give you immediate feedback. Each session lasts 15 minutes and members walk away with honest and constructive advice.

Slots will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Those who register will be notified via email of the time slot assigned. Due to space limitations, we ask that you arrive no more or less than 15 minutes before your assigned time slot.

You will receive your specific time slot within the morning window by May 13. Please do not show up without a confirmation.

 You must bring the following:

  • A copy of your headshot and resume.
  • A prepared monologue 
  • Something for taking notes.

The Atlanta Local Conservatory Presents: The Empowered Actor

The Muriel Moore/Danny Nelson SAG-AFTRA Conservatory Presents: The Empowered Actor with Elaine Hendrix

This workshop is to help empower actors at a core level, supporting the "whole artist" we truly are. Craft. Business. Life. Spend the evening exploring, expanding and sharpening your expertise with fun, interactive acting exercises along with a deep dive Q&A into creativity, the industry and living a successful life as an actor.

Elaine Hendrix is an actor best known for her iconic roles in Disney's The Parent Trap, SNL's Superstar and the cult classic Romy & Michele's High School Reunion. She most recently starred as the iconic Alexis Carrington in the Atlanta-based production of Dynasty for The CW and Netflix. When she's not working on set, Elaine teaches and coaches other performers within various mediums. 

Only 20 members will participate. There will be a wait list. If you must cancel, you must do so within 24 hours of the event so another member may participate.

Doors will close at 7:05 p.m. No one will be admitted after that time out of respect for our presenter and all participants.

Our Conservatory will be collecting non-perishable food items for Intown Cares.

Also, if you are a "no-show," per Conservatory rules, you will be exempted from any events for the following month.

Atlanta Coffee Get Together

Start the spring season right! Join fellow members in Atlanta for a beverage and good conversation at our May coffee get together! Members will enjoy a complimentary coffee, tea or soft drink.

Join us to meet new people, connect with some old friends you haven't seen in a while. Discuss matters of importance, share information, and learn how to help each other locally. Elected leadership will be in attendance. Look for the tables with SAG-AFTRA signage.

Capital Pride Parade

Where: Starting near 14th Street and T Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20009

We hope you will join the SAG-AFTRA Washington-Mid Atlantic Local's LGBTQ+ Committee and your fellow members as we march in the Capital Pride Parade on Saturday, June 8, 2024 in Washington, D.C.!

Capital Pride, which began as a one-day block party and street festival in 1975, has grown to become a staple of D.C culture. Per the organizers: “Attendance has continued to grow dramatically, and it is now one of the largest Pride celebrations in the United States, reaching over 650,000 people in 2023, through activities that are focused on celebrating, educating, and supporting our LGBTQ+ community, including the Capital Pride Parade and free Capital Pride Festival and Concert.”

Marching through multiple neighborhoods, this year’s Capital Pride Parade will start at 3:00PM at 14th Street and T Street NW and end at Pennsylvania Ave and 9th NW. This is an exterior event with an approximately 2 mile walk. Members who are participating must be at the parade staging area on 15th Street NW at a yet to be determined time. Due to the strict headcount by parade organizers, we need all members interested in marching with our contingent to RSVP via the form below. Registered members will receive further instructions on what time and where to meet.

New Mexico Local Members:  The “Coffee Connections” Are Back!

Join us in Albuquerque as we re-launch the SAG-AFTRA NM Local Coffee Connection. For this first gathering, we’ll even treat you to a complimentary medium-sized beverage or pastry!

These events are open forum gatherings where NM members can discuss matters of importance, share what’s on their minds, and network in a relaxed environment. Sometimes we may have a guest speaker, but these are really meant for you - our fellow members - to stay connected and help each other in our unconventional profession.

We’ll have a suggestion board so you can let us know your areas of interest or specific topics you'd like to discuss at future Connections.

the Pennsylvania Capitol Building as we make the case
for an increase to a $300 million film tax credit
program.

Our long history of film in Pennsylvania is in jeopardy
and the legislature must take action to ensure that the
thousands of Pennsylvania residents who work in this
industry can continue to work.

When our performers and crews earn a consistent living, the
Commonwealth and local taxing jurisdictions all benefit.

Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival 2024

The 40th annual Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival runs from May 1 to 10, 2024 – as a hybrid event, with select films and panels being available online as well as at select venues in the Los Angeles area. The in-person venues include the Japanese American National Museum (JANM), Aratani Theater at the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center (JACCC), CENTRL Office Downtown Los Angeles, UCLA’s Fowler Museum, and Art Theatre of Long Beach.

2024 ReelAbilities Film Festival

The ReelAbilities Film Festival Los Angeles returns for its sixth year, celebrating diversity and inclusion in the heart of Downtown L.A.

This two-day festival is dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories, and artistic expressions of people with disabilities. They showcase new and classic films, conversations, and programs that explore, embrace, and celebrate the diversity of the shared human experience.

Hosted by the City of Los Angeles Department on Disability, in partnership with Grand Performances, this year’s 6th annual ReelAbilities Film Festival in Los Angeles will take place on May 4th and 5th in Downtown L.A.’s California Plaza.

The Department on Disability offers American Sign Language interpretation and real-time captioning for non-film programming including introductions, post-screening conversations, and panel discussions. The festival venue is wheelchair accessible. All movies feature open captioning, with optional audio descriptions available for enhanced accessibility. In this workshop you’ll learn how to be “yourself" in every aspect of the business while also thriving within the confines of a typecasting industry. But, developing your unique niche is the secret to achieving your career dreams.

About the Instructor:

Mark Atteberry is an award winning actor, photographer, director and image expert. His acting work includes Gone Girl, The Hulk, Yellowstone, Dahmer, Curb Your Enthusiasm, American Horror Story, This Is Us, SWAT, Grace and Frankie, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Black-ish, The Newsroom and many more. Early in his career Mark was chosen as "Best Headshot Photographer in LA” by BackStage Magazine. He is known as “LA’s Type Specialist” and teaches regularly on the topic. He has written several books including, "The Working Actor's Guide to LA.”
