L.A. Local Membership Meeting & Expo

No RSVP required. Please bring your membership card (must be paid through April 30 or Oct. 31, 2024). Parents/guardians of performers under 18 years old are welcome.

Please join your SAG-AFTRA L.A. Local Officers, President Jodi Long, First Vice President Sheryl Lee Ralph and 2nd Vice President David Jolliffe, along with local board members and your staff, for the 2024 SAG-AFTRA L.A. Local membership meeting.

Come and hear the latest news and updates. Members will have the opportunity to learn and ask questions of elected representatives and staff. During the membership meeting the Ralph Morgan Award will also be presented to L.A. Local members Alan Rosenberg and Kitty Swink for their dedication to union service.

There is an expo prior to the meeting to provide members the opportunity to learn more about our L.A. Local committees and partnering organizations. The expo will begin at 11 a.m. PT with the membership meeting to follow at noon PT.

Parking: Parking will be validated so please bring your ticket with you.

Kauai Coffee Connection

Let’s Talk: Mental Health Equity and the Labor Movement

The Illinois AFL-CIO is teaming up with labor activists across the country to discuss the important of mental health equity. Join them for a Zoom webinar from 4-5:15 p.m. CT on May 15 to discuss the importance of access to mental health care and resources union members can draw on to sustain the labor movement. Michigan Local May Coffee Connection

We are continuing our 2024 Coffee Connections series in the Michigan Local with our May Edition. We will again be hosted by the folks at Productions Plus.

In addition to audition skills, this month we will also cover some best practices, techniques and equipment for self-taping auditions.

Phoenix Coffee Connection

Join us for the May Phoenix coffee connection! Connections are open forum gatherings where SAG-AFTRA members can come enjoy a complimentary beverage, meet new people and explore how to help each other locally. Elected leaders will be in attendance. Look for tables with SAG-AFTRA signage.

NextGen Game Night

The place to be on the 3rd Tuesday of the Month is NextGen Game Night at the KRC! Games begin at 6 p.m., and we keep going until the last person drops (or 9 p.m.!)

Please bring a friend or family member, grab a snack to share, and come to game night!  Guaranteed fun and community.

Young Performer Informational Meetings for Parents

In an effort to resurrect the Young Performers Committee, we will be holding 2 brainstorming/informational meetings on Monday, May 13th at 1:00 pm and Monday, May 20th at 3:00 pm.  Parents need to only attend one or the other.  

The goal for these meetings is to create an agenda for the upcoming year for educational seminars and events for parents and Young Performers.  If you are unable to attend, but have ideas, and/or want to be included in future meetings, please contact Kathy.Byrne@sagaftra.org.

Actors Helping Actors - Scene Study 1

Actors will meet to work on scenes and audition materials to hone their skills and prepare for future auditions.  Please bring your material to work on.

Park and enter the glass doors.  We’re upstairs.

Free Financial Education Workshop on Preparing for Financial Emergencies

BMO SmartProgress, financial education programs provided by EVERFI, Inc., is hosting financial workshops for SAG-AFTRA members.

The first seminar in the series will focus on .preparing for Financial Emergencies.  Discover pstrategies to build a simple budget and pay off debt.

The event will be available via ZOOM, but if you are in Chicago and able to attend in person, please join us.

Description:

Join us for Actors Evening with Lee Garlington - "The Casting Landscape Post Covid!”

An opportunity to discuss with Suzanne Goddard Smythe, Sandi Logan, and Seth Yanklewitz details and insights about casting and booking theatrical jobs in the current hybrid world we live in.

Sandi Logan has been a Casting Director for almost 30 years, working on television pilots and series, reality shows, short films which have toured the festivals, and is currently working on a feature.  She was nominated for an Emmy for Best Casting of a Comedy Series for “Monk.” She was the in-house Casting Director for the Falcon Theatre (now the Garry Marshall Theatre) for many years, casting over 20 projects, including the LA workshop of “Pretty Woman” prior to its move to Broadway.  She spent 8 years of her career as the Vice President of Casting at both ABC Network and ABC Studios.  Sandi received her Bachelor’s degree in Theatre (with an emphasis in Directing) from UC San Diego and has taught and lectured at various drama schools around the country.

Suzanne Goddard-Smythe is a casting director most recently known for RAVEN’S HOME (Daytime Emmy nominated), THAT GIRL LAY LAY, SCHOOL OF ROCK (two- time Artios winner), Netflix’s NO GOOD NICK, DETROIT: Become Human, HEATHER’S: The Musical (L.A. and Off Broadway), SYFY’s Warehouse 13, among many others television series and films. Suzanne is currently working with Quantic Dream on STAR WARS ECLIPSE.

Seth Yanklewitz is known for casting The Hangover (2009), New Girl (2011) and Billy the Kid (2022). Nominated for 1 Primetime Emmy. 3 wins & 5 nominations total. 

Parking: Limited street parking is available. Members are welcome to park at the Los Angeles Film School parking lot on Ivar Ave and Sunset Blvd. However, please note parking costs $15 due to the duration of the class.

We encourage attendees to carpool, use Uber/Lyft, or use public transportation.
