Local Scholarship Applications Now Being Accepted Through April 15!

The SAG-AFTRA Ohio-Pittsburgh Local is now accepting applications for our scholarship fund awards for the 2015-2016 academic year. Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity!

The SAG-AFTRA Dan Mallinger Scholarship Fund was renamed in 1992 to honor AFTRA Pittsburgh’s longtime Executive Director Dan Mallinger, and now memorializes him as well as many other SAG-AFTRA members and executives who cared about and contributed to the union. 

Scholarships are offered by the Scholarship Committee to SAG-AFTRA members or their dependent children for academic study in any field - including broadcast, journalism and labor relations - or for professional training in the arts. Eligibility requires SAG-AFTRA membership in good standing for the five years preceding the extended application deadline of April 15, 2015 as well as residence in the jurisdiction of the Ohio-Pittsburgh Local. The criteria for the limited number of scholarships available include academic excellence, financial need, and acceptance or enrollment in a university, professional school or other accredited institution of higher education. 

Please download the Application, Advisor Form, and Scholarship Information online and submit all required materials. Requests made by mail for applications should include a stamped, self-addressed envelope. All applications and supporting materials must be received in the Ohio-Pittsburgh Local office by no later than April 15, 2015. 

All applications received on or before April 15, 2015, will be carefully considered, and award decisions will be made on April 17, 2015 by the Ohio-Pittsburgh Local Scholarship Committee.
Scholarship recipients will be notified after the selection process is complete and will be invited to attend the local’s annual meeting the evening of April 27, 2015 in Pittsburgh, where the recipients will receive their awards. 

Several scholarships currently are awarded up to a maximum of $2,000 each. Scholarships are funded entirely by contributions to the SAG-AFTRA Dan Mallinger Scholarship Fund.
