Illinois Labor History Society Celebrates Women & Work
Chicago’s Pullman neighborhood is spending Labor Day celebrating labor history at the area’s historic sites, including the Florence Hotel, on Sept 2. Various SAG-AFTRA performers will be portraying historical figures such as former Chicago Mayor John Hopkins. Hopkins, was the 35th mayor of Chicago, (1893–1895), as well as the City’s first Irish American Catholic mayor.
The Hotel Florence was built by George Pullman in 1881 and, since 1991, it has been owned by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. The event is sponsored by the National Park Service, the Historic Pullman Foundation and the Illinois Labor History Society. For more information, visit IllinoisLaborHistory.org.
