On September 15th, the Little Village Chamber of Commerce will kick off the 2024 26th Annual Mexican Independence Day Parade. This year's theme, 'Celebrating Our Traditions,' highlights the rich diversity of Mexican traditions. Expect a vibrant display as participants of the parade show a variety of traditions derived from various regions and cultures. Please arrive at 11:30 a.m.

El 15 de septiembre, la Cámara de Comercio de La Villita dará inicio al 26 Desfile Anual del Día de la Independencia de México de 2024. El tema de este año, 'Celebrando Nuestras Tradiciones', resalta la rica diversidad de las tradiciones mexicanas. Espere una exhibición vibrante mientras los participantes del desfile muestran una variedad de tradiciones derivadas de diversas regiones y culturas. Por favor llegue a las 11:30 a.m.

Chicago Labor Day Parade

Where: Chicago's Pullman Neighborhood

Labor Day is an American holiday that celebrates and honors the contributions of working-class people. Organized and run by the Chicago Federation of Labor, the parade seeks to celebrate union pride, solidarity, and community togetherness.  The parade will be followed by Eddie Fest, featuring live music, food and fun for the whole family.

Bud Billiken Parade

Where: Washington Park

The Bud Billiken® Parade, the largest African American parade in the United States, spans generations of families across the country who have participated since its inception. With education as its foundation, the parade takes place at the close of summer—Bud Billiken® kicks off the school year with high energy and enthusiasm.

The parade stretches two miles down Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, through the historic Bronzeville neighborhood, into Washington Park.  It will kick off at 10am and end by 4pm and SAG-AFTRA will be participating with the Chicago Federation of Labor.

SAG-AFTRA Chicago Conservatory Presents: On-Set Paperwork & Protocols

With film and episodic production beginning to pick up, so too has confusion about exactly what kind of paperwork is required before shooting begins, when reporting to set, and following the production wrap.  

You are invited to join us for a workshop to inform members about what is expected when you show up to work on Day 1.  

Join us for a presentation lead by Kathy Byrne (Senior Director of TV & Theatrical, Chicago local) and Anthony Cabral (1st AD, and member of DGA, Producers Guild of America, and SAG-AFTRA)

Don’t miss out on the chance to learn, confirm, and discuss how members can help streamline the paperwork process from audition to wrap. 

Bio:

Anthony E. Cabral, known as "ACE," is an award-winning filmmaker and highly sought-after assistant director with nearly 30 years of experience in film, television, and video production. A graduate of Missouri State University with a degree in Mass Media: Film Studies and Production, he has worked on a wide range of projects from low-budget independent films to Disney television programs. He is an active member of the Directors Guild of America (DGA), the Producers Guild of America (PGA), and SAG-AFTRA. Beyond his on-set work, Mr. Cabral serves on multiple DGA committees and has been elected as an alternate for the Eastern AD/UPM Council. He is dedicated to giving back to the industry through volunteer work as a Theater Manager for the Sundance Film Festival, teaching Production Assistant Training Classes, and guest speaking at various universities and organizations.

The Golden Age of Radio

Where: Chicago Cultural Center — Claudia Cassidy Theater: 78 E. Washington St., 2nd Floor North

The Chicago Radio Players, in association with Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, present The Golden Age of Radio!  

On July 14, the Chicago Radio Players will be performing two radio classics: Call Northside 777 and My Favorite Husband.  Directed and performed by Chicago SAG-AFTRA members, you won't want to miss the exciting and engaging performances!

The shows will be held in the Chicago Cultural Center's Claudia Cassidy Theater and admission is free. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m.

 

Registrations are encouraged but not required.

Feeling overwhelmed about self taping? Worried that you don’t have the right camera, lighting, sound, or backdrop to shoot at home? Wondering what you could do better, easier, and faster to have the most effective self tapes? Having a hard time figuring how to submit when on vacation? Do these questions sound familiar? Then be sure to join us on July 15th at 6 pm at the Kaufherr Center as we sit down with Jim Dougherty. If you've got questions, Jim's got answers!

Jim Dougherty (director, producer, writer, casting director, cinematographer, stunt driver, fight coordinator, editor, actor, and more!) has worked on hundreds of films, tv shows, and stage productions. As a  fellow SAG-AFTRA Member, he has become a true maven on the workings and value of self-taping and is ready to show YOU how to take your self tapes to the next level.

Clone of Contract Seminar for Parents of Young Performers

This seminar will cover Minor Contract Provisions for the TV/Theatrical contract and Commercials contract. It is important for parents of SAG-AFTRA minors to understand their rights on set, for auditions and beyond. The meeting will be held via ZOOM.  Please get your questions ready!

NextGen Movie Night

Where: Millennium Park - Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Great Lawn

The NextGen Committee is hosting a movie night for SAG-AFTRA Chicago members!  Please join us at Millennium Park for E.T. - The Extra Terrestrial and Jurassic Park on July 16th.

The Movies begin at 6 p.m., but we will begin to gather on blankets/chairs at 5 p.m.   For those who RSVP below, we will email/text our location at about 4:30 p.m. so you know where to meet us.  Bring a friend, bring a chair and some snacks and watch some classic films under the stars!
