SYNOPSIS

INDUSTRY follows a group of young graduates fueled by ambition, youth, romance and drugs, competing for a limited number of permanent positions at a leading international bank in London. The series gives an insider's view of the blackbox of “high finance” through the eyes of an outsider, Harper Stern (Myha’la Herrold), a talented young woman from upstate New York. INDUSTRY examines issues of gender, race, class, and privilege in the workplace as these impressionable young minds begin to forge their identities within the pressure cooker environment and sensory blitz of Pierpoint & Co's trading floor, where meritocracy is promised but hierarchy is king. Season one is available to stream on HBO Max.

The series stars Myha’la Herrold (The Tattooed Heart), Marisa Abela (Cobra), Harry Lawtey (City of Tiny Lights), David Jonsson (Deep State) and Nabhaan Rizwan (Mogul Mowgli) as "The Graduates” and Conor MacNeill (Artemis Fowl), Freya Mavor (Skins), Will Tudor (HBO’s Game of Thrones) and Ken Leung (HBO’s High Maintenance) as “Management.”

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Presents: Audio Basics for the Absolute Beginner

SYNOPSIS

This class is aimed at actors who have little to no experience in working with audio and are just getting their VO careers started.  

EIF audio engineer Naava Feingold will go over basic audio recording terminology, give an overview of the key components of DAW’s (Digital Audio Workstations) and will emphasize the things you will need to know in your daily VO life including industry standards that should be adhered to.

This class will also act as a prerequisite to more advanced tech-oriented classes.

REQUIREMENTS

Basic computer skills and comprehension required.

This class will require screen/camera access as visual materials will be presented.

If you have previously attended this class, you will be removed from the RSVP list.  This is to ensure all members have opportunity to attend.

SAG-AFTRA Foundation Presents: Commercial Partner Reads Workout

SYNOPSIS

In this time of isolation, let's safely converge in cyber space to work on (arguably) one of the most fun types of commercial read: the partner read! In this workout group, participants will have an opportunity to work together on delightful commercial copy that requires multiple performers. Join VO Lab Engineer and VO talent Jennifer O' Donnell for feedback, fun and a sense of community!

SYNOPSIS

This session will provide a greater understanding of the components and elements that go into an effective demo reel as well as covering the role of the reel and how an actor can best use it as one of their marketing tools. This session will last for 2 - 3 hours. Participants must stay for the whole time. 

If you want your reel reviewed:

It must be no longer than three minutes.

Resumes are so much more than a statement of an actor's work history. They can also reflect an actor's personality, understanding of the industry, and their future potential roles. This session will provide a greater understanding of the role of the resume and how an actor can best use it as one of their marketing tools.

Small Group Sessions are facilitated discussions with the goal of digging deeper into some of the information and advice shared within the panels. These sessions provide a time to break down concepts into practical action items by which an actor can individually apply to their professional pursuits. This session will last for 1.5 - 2 hours. Participants must stay for the whole time.

By creating a solid plan, audience members will have the steps to create a budget, get out of debt, build an emergency fund and begin to save for retirement. Participants will leave knowing that they can begin their path of financial freedom.

The Actors Fund Presents: Affordable Housing for Seniors

This seminar, tailored for senior citizens, helps participants better understand the affordable housing landscape and get organized and prepared to take advantage of opportunities to apply. While much of the content is similar to the “Applying for Affordable Housing” seminar, which is intended for the general population, this seminar focuses in on information that will most relevant for older adults in NYC including senior specific housing programs. The application process is explained in simple steps and help applicants avoid common mistakes. Information regarding assessing your income, eligibility criteria, and documentation is discussed to address the specific needs of the performing arts and entertainment community. In addition to general  information about affordable housing, information is also provided about The Actors Fund housing for performing arts professionals.

Spotlight on Dancers
Years of exacting dance training and performance build key skills needed to succeed in the coronavirus world: adaptability and flexibility, creativity and innovation, critical thinking, emotional Intelligence and leadership, along with mind/body awareness and time management muscles. This session will highlight strategies and resources dancers can utilize to connect their impressive toolkit to the current labor market.  

During this discussion you will: 

  • Hear from dancers  who have successfully applied their skills to new and different settings.  
  • Learn about jobs and fields--in the fast-evolving labor market--where your professional skill sets are needed and wanted. 
  • Connect with resources for identifying new directions and to support your job search.
